You might call it a run toward the border or a little weekend run, but it is part of what I do and it does haves some benefits, like
Pappa's Oyster Special - $3.95 for a baker's dozen on the 1/2 shell. Leaving Longview at 5:30 AM headed towards Alice by 3:00 PM , then back to Corpus Christi for 14 hours R & R before heading back to Longview. Best part, Multi-Gig mp3 loaded and pegged to shuffle like 24 hours of Trick Radio. Worst part, 15 hours in the van on Hwy 259/59. It does give you time to be creative and the May pod cast will be "a good 'un". To break up the trip, I started taking the old Hwy rather than the new by-passes and photographing the things now skipped over by the majority of the folks.
Here are some examples of the downtown theater. I think we had one at one time:

The Rialto
Sinton, Tx

The Plaza
Whorton, Tx

The Texan
Cleveland, Tx

The Fain
Livingston, Tx
and
a surviving "TeePee Motel" in Whorton, although they look like they've been on a diet:

Here are some of my new road friends:

Too tired to pass word.
